Saint Peter’s launches BS in computer science with concentration in AI, machine learning – ROI-NJ.com

Saint Peter’s University announced on Friday it has launch a Bachelor of Science in computer science with a concentration in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The program was established in response to high demand for experts in AI and machine learning for a variety of fields, including health care, banking, financing, research, gaming and more.
“The Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Saint Peter’s has been teaching AI for decades,” Alberto LaCava, chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, said. “We have in-house experts in the AI and machine learning disciplines and we have been investing in AI technology and infrastructure. We look forward to maximizing our latest tools and faculty expertise as we introduce the new courses in this program.”
The Jersey City-based university said it also has constructed an Artificial Intelligence Lab on campus, which will house high-speed computers. Construction funding was provided through SURGE, or STEM Undergraduate Retention Graduation and Empowerment, a $3.8 million project by the U.S. Department of Education through the Hispanic-Serving Institutions Stem Program.
Marcia Mitchell, associate professor of computer and information sciences, will serve as the lead instructor in the program.
