SCCT: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is Impacting Cardiovascular CT – Cath Lab Digest

Arlington, VA (April 15, 2021) — There has been an explosion of research on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in cardiology over the past five years. In cardiovascular computed tomography (CCT), this research has impacted the way that practitioners look at image analysis and the potential for scientific advancement and improved patient care.

Manish Motwani, MBChB, PhD, FSCCT, Cardiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, England and co-chair of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Cardiovascular CT webinar series, states: “Across all the modalities, people are looking at how they can extract more information from the images we acquire faster and with less human input.”

The SCCT Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Cardiovascular CT webinar series gives a detailed look into this era of accelerated development of advanced AI and ML techniques designed to maximize data extraction from conventional cardiac imaging. “Cardiovascular CT imagers must keep up with the latest advances in technology within the field in an effort to improve and maximize patient care,” explains Ed Nicol, MD, MBA, FSCCT, of Royal Brompton Hospital in London, who led the organizing committee for the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Cardiovascular CT meeting.

The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Cardiovascular CT webinar series is made up of four three-hour webinars focusing on developments in AI and ML that have the potential to impact cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular CT. Concentrating on the themes of coronary artery disease, structural heart disease and methodology, the series will allow for in-depth discussion of multi-modality clinical applications of these technologies with a wide range of stakeholders from the clinical, academic and commercial arenas.

Upcoming webinars will be held on May 6, June 9 and September 17.

A fourth installment sets the context across multiple imaging modalities and is available on demand to all registrants. The May 6 webinar, “AI/ML basics/overview methodology – pearls and pitfalls” continues the introductory approach and aims to make the content accessible to attendees at all levels of knowledge.
